Gas bomb as it appears in the Dust Front RTS demo, from the game files of build 23882143

Gas bomb

Confirmed Established — fromdocs/sources/demo/raw/TacticalAbilityConfig.json / r_gasBomber, build 23882143

What it is

Gas bomb calls in a bomber rather than delivering an instant strike: “Call in a heavy bomber to drop a gas bomb. The bomber could be shot down.

Range: 3 sectors.” In demo build 23882143, its cooldown is 5 seconds and it cannot be used in fog. The linked bombing component carries a single bomb, compared with 58 for Incendiary trail and 16 for Heavy bombs. Those counts describe the payload, not the damage to a target. Check the approach, visibility and target position before calling it; the description explicitly allows the aircraft to be shot down.

Where it comes from

Gas and fire have separate resistance fields in demo build 23882143. Disgusting concrete eater has a gas coefficient of −1.0, while some entries carry 1.0. These are recorded coefficients, not a published formula for damage taken: a negative value does not by itself establish a damage multiplier, and the positive value does not prove immunity. Gas bomb should therefore be read alongside the target’s defence page. The distinction between gas and fire is documented; the exact combat outcome still requires observation.

How it is actually used

The warning “The bomber could be shot down” makes enemy anti-air a relevant part of the decision. Gas coefficients include −0.4 for Subterranean worm, −0.5 for Giant and −1.0 for Disgusting concrete eater; Empire structures include values such as 0.9 and 1.0. These examples are useful for comparing the recorded fields, but they do not establish immunity or a guaranteed damage advantage. A stationary target may be easier to keep under the intended strike point. That is a tactical consideration, not evidence that a moving target always escapes.

How to beat it

Watch the bomber’s approach and consider anti-air coverage around assets you want to protect. The official warning that the aircraft can be shot down supports this response, but it does not promise that every interception succeeds. Repositioning away from the intended impact point may also help, depending on the attack and the target’s movement. Do not treat the single-bomb payload as proof that there is no lingering effect or that the bomb cannot reach nearby troops. Compare the observed strike with the target’s defence rather than assuming immunity.
