What it is
Heavy bombs describes both an area attack and a vulnerable delivery aircraft: “You call in a heavy bomber, which drops 5 large bombs. The bombs deal area damage and deal increased damage in the center of the explosion. The bomber can be shot down.
Range: 3 sectors.” Demo build 23882143 records a 5-second cooldown, an initial cooldown and no use in fog. There is a source discrepancy: the description says 5 bombs, while the linked bombing component specifies 16, released half a second apart. Both belong to the same extracted demo. Keep that disagreement visible when planning a strike; neither the description nor the component count alone establishes the number of successful impacts on a target.
Where it comes from
Demo build 23882143 records area-resistance coefficients on potential targets. Examples include −0.5 on the Empire Additional generator and 0.9 on the neutral Anti-aircraft tower. Their values are not a verified formula for blast damage, so they do not establish an exact multiplier or near-total absorption. The bombing component’s 16-bomb setting also differs from the wording of the official description. This is a disagreement within the demo sources, not evidence of a dated balance change or a prediction of how a later version will behave.
How it is actually used
The description includes “increased damage in the center”, so the intended impact point matters. Mercenary factories record an area coefficient of 0.0, the Empire Additional generator −0.5 and Mat. Fabricator −0.2; Trench and Bunker record 0.6. These fields do not by themselves rank the targets by damage received. Heavy bombs has a release interval of 0.5 seconds, compared with 0.15 for Incendiary trail. Use that distinction to assess the attack’s timing, while checking whether targets can move; the interval alone does not prove that a particular unit escapes.
How to beat it
Trench records an area coefficient of 0.6; this does not establish a guaranteed defence against the strike. Anti-air and movement are options to assess because the aircraft can be shot down and the attack is aimed at an area. The correction dated 5 September 2026 concerned the recorded payload, not a balance patch: the component specifies 16 bombs, compared with 58 for Incendiary trail and a single bomb for Gas bomb. These counts do not prove which strike is easier to survive. Judge the flight path, cover and actual impacts together.
