Dust Front RTS is made by rtsDimon, who is both its developer and its publisher. It is a one-person project. The Steam listing describes it as “a classic RTS with grand strategy elements and a non-linear campaign”, set on “the lifeless fields of Dust Front”.
The structure is two games stacked. In the devlog announced on 15 April 2025 the developer wrote that “RTS mode combines elements from different classic and tactical strategies. Global mode is the engine of the game. The player fights for territories, participates in text events, establishes economy and creates garrisons.” He added the design intent in the same post: “System-based gameplay is supposed to prevail, not content-based with staging and a linear storyline.”
On scale, he is direct. In the 10 February 2026 post he wrote that a single campaign is “designed for approximately 15 hours”, and that his goal is “to create a small but comprehensive game that fully meets my genre requirements.” One faction is playable in the campaign, and he explained why: building both the real-time layer and the global layer amounts to “creating two games in one.”
There is no multiplayer, and there will not be. He addressed it pre-emptively in the same post: “The project doesn’t need it… I have no intention of building a multiplayer community.” This is a single-player game by design, not by omission.
On the battlefield itself, the guidance he published with the demo on 15 June 2026 is the best summary of how it plays: “This game isn’t about squads, it’s about battalions. Companies of tanks and the thunder of artillery.” He named economy as the second pillar — “if you’re short on resources, move your base, develop a passive economy” — and front width as the third.
If you want a shorthand for what it is aiming at, the developer gave one himself in his devlog post of 15 April 2025, and it is a specific one. Asking what his game offers “against its possible opponents just as a classic RTS”, he names the benchmark: “How does it stand out against the same C&C3 Tiberium Wars (one of the games, objects of inspiration), a game from 2007? Maybe my game could at least come close to ancient lost technology?” Command & Conquer 3 is the reference he chose, and he chose an eighteen-year-old one on purpose.
In the same post he set out what the two halves are for: “RTS mode combines elements from different classic and tactical strategies. Global mode is the engine of the game. The player fights for territories, participates in text events, establishes economy and creates garrisons.” Note “text events” — the campaign layer is not only a map with armies on it.
⚠️ One press comparison exists and we report it as a comparison, not as a fact about the game. On 7 April 2025 Wargamer.com wrote about it under the headline “Until Warhammer 40k Dawn of War 4 appears, I’ll pin my hopes on this indie RTS”, calling it “a grimdark indie RTS called Dust Front”. ⭐ That article was relayed by Steam onto the game’s own news feed, which is a signal in itself — but it is a journalist’s framing, and the developer has never compared his game to that one.
One fact ties the three answers above together, and it is not on the Steam page. On his own public support page, read on 3 September 2026, the developer introduces himself in Russian: “Здравствуйте, меня зовут Дмитрий (rtsDimon). Я соло-разработчик игры под названием Dust Front RTS.” — which we translate as: hello, my name is Dmitry (rtsDimon), I am the solo developer of a game called Dust Front RTS. ⚠️ The quotation marks hold his words; the English is ours, and we do not put our own wording in quotes. One person is why there is no release date, no multiplayer and one campaign.
Confirmed by the Steam listing as of 17 August 2026: Windows only, English and Russian, single-player, no release date announced. A free public demo has been available since 15 June 2026 and, at the time of writing, holds 3 401 reviews at 93 percent positive.
