Scanning

Confirmed Established — fromdocs/sources/demo/raw/AbilitiesRTS.AbilityConfig.json / RadarScan, build 23882143

What it is

Scanning reveals fog of war at a chosen point: “Opens the fog of war at the specified location..” The official description belongs to build 23882143. Its cooldown is 120 seconds and its maximum targeting range is 600. The Radar’s call points to a spawned object with a fog-of-war radius and a destruction-time setting. These effect settings exist separately from the call’s targeting range; their presence does not by itself certify the exact visible footprint or combat duration. Consult the Radar page and keep targeting range, visibility radius and object lifetime distinct.

Where it comes from

Reconnaissance entries use different descriptions: Area illumination lasts “a long time”, while Interceptor is described as “Pairs perfectly with artillery”. Both phrases are qualitative. In build 23882143, Scanning has its own cooldown and targeting range, so it is misleading to say that none of these abilities contains numbers. The Interceptor description also gives a sector range, which is not the same unit as a scan targeting range. Compare the individual reconnaissance pages; shared purpose does not establish equal duration, cost or coverage.

How it is actually used

A scan can help check a suspected army, expansion or firing position. Its linked fog object has radius and lifetime settings, but these are not a guarantee of uninterrupted target visibility through an entire bombardment. For comparison, the Molot weapon has a base range of 10 and a separate range bonus of 51; those are weapon parameters, not scan coverage. Artillery guidance has its own mode requirement. Compare the reconnaissance and artillery pages with the visibility actually available before committing the shot.

How to beat it

If a scan exposes your position, consider moving units that may be targeted. Revealing terrain does not itself guarantee an incoming artillery strike. The linked fog object records radius and destruction time, but its lifetime is not a guaranteed interval of targeting or protection. The Molot’s area-resistance coefficient is −0.6; it does not prove a damage multiplier or make every artillery position an easy target. Observe the weapons present and compare the Radar and artillery pages to distinguish vision from the attack it may support.
